Inflammation is an interesting event in the body – inflammation is necessary for healing, but too much of it can be detrimental to the healing process. The most important part of inflammation is pain – telling us to change, modify, or stop what we are doing.
Many over-the-counter (OTC) medications exist to help manage inflammation and pain, yet these medications are synthetic and actually inhibit the anti-inflammatory pathways of the body as well as the inflammatory.
The signs of inflammation (“Cardinal Signs of Inflammation”) can be remembered by an acronym, SHLRP, which include swelling, heat, loss of function, redness, and pain. Each of these responses of inflammation assist in protecting the body from further damage and proper recovery.
The pathway of inflammation is complex. Certain pathways are blocked by non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) and blocks the inflammation. Yet, when NSAIDs block the inflammation pathway, they also block the anti-inflammatory pathways. As a better alternative, many nutrients block inflammatory pathways while promoting the anti-inflammatory pathways.
My favorite product that accomplishes this is Liga PN by Nutriwest. Liga PN is a powerful combination of herbs and vitamins that complement the anti-inflammatory pathways and naturally relieve pain and inhibit the inflammatory pathways. I regularly recommend it in my office.
Each tablet of Liga PN include:
- N-Acetyl Glucosamine – a precursor for glycosaminoglycans, a major component of cartilage
- Bromelaine – natural anti-inflammatory
- Valerian – natural muscle relaxer
- Fever Few – natural anti-inflammatory (parthenolide)
- Passion Flower – natural muscle relaxer
- Scullcap – natural muscle relaxer
- White Willow – natural pain reliever
- White willow was the precursor to modern day aspirin (and its derivatives). It takes a bit longer than aspirin to start acting, but its effects last longer. Moreover, it does not cause stomach bleeding or other known adverse effects.
- Kava Kava – natural muscle relaxer / tranquilizer
- Tumeric – natural anti-inflammatory (curcuminoid)
- Ginger – natural anti-inflammatory (curcuminoid)
- Plus many other vitamins, minerals, and herbs
With any injury, two (2) tablets every two (2) hours is highly effective to reducing inflammation and pain for the acute time period (72 hours). From that point, 1-2 tablets three (3) times per day is adequate.

There are free screenings all over in health care. People sign up for screenings and then feel good about their health with the results. Yet, screening for disease does nothing for disease prevention. A screening could show great results today and poor results tomorrow.
At health fairs all across the country, there are booths for screening blood pressure, blood chemistry, spinal alignment, and more. It is important to recognize that results from these screenings are only a “snapshot” in time. If blood were to be extracted from the body a few hours later, the results may prove to be significantly different. Whenever blood results are received, it is important to analyze the findings according to relevant health history, stress, and current health and nutritional circumstances.
Conventional medicine attempts to promote “prevention” through screenings, yet rarely emphasize the importance of living foods, exercise, nutrition, sunlight, and emotional balance.
Prevent disease by living healthy. Daily care is needed for continued health. When the body is stressed and needing assistance, consider Centra Chiropractic to analyze your body’s systems holistically to treat the body according to what it needs to achieve balance and health.

Have you recently been involved in a car accident? If you have, you are most likely feeling the effects on your body of the collision of two or more massive objects. Car accidents are literal “beatings” to the human body.
There are many aspects of the body that need care and attention after a car accident:
- Soft tissue injury
- Inflammation / Pain
- Misaligned skeletal structure
- Muscle weakness
- Stress / Anxiety
- Emotion
At Centra Chiropractic, we are thorough in treating car accident victims. We analyze and treat the body holistically – treating muscles, nerve dysfunction, ligaments, emotions, inflammation, pain, and structure. By doing so, results are more quick, more reliable, and more affordable. Not only will you love us, but your insurance company will too! That does wonders for your auto policy premium…
Many people wait for insurances to settle before seeking chiropractic treatment. Usually, these people may wait weeks in pain and unneeded discomfort. Most auto insurance policies have medical coverage that pay for chiropractic care – this amount is reimbursed to the drivers insurance companies if they are not “at fault”.
Do not delay – schedule today!

We have had our VitaMix for over 6 months now. My wife and I love smoothies and other various dishes that can be made simply in the blender. Our recurring problem: each blender would break or burn out, no matter the brand or the amount of money that we spent on it. Once we decided to start eating raw, blenders were breaking monthly or even weekly!
The 7-year warranty offered by VitaMix was a huge attractant. Wow! A guarantee that we would not have to buy another blender for at least 7 years… We were excited. Even though the blender has a price of $449, we determined that we were spending more than that over a 7 year period just buying blender after cheap blender. Moreover, with all of the power packed behind the blender, there were so many other dishes, dips, and desserts we could make that we could not even attempt with other blenders.
We have used our VitaMix every day for the last 6 months. Some of my new raw favorites are:
- Homemade (sugar-free) Coconut Ice Cream (non-dairy)
- Green Smoothies
- Tomato Soup
- Almond Milk
- Cashew Frosting
- Cocoa Pudding
- Peach Cobbler
- Banana Coconut Cream Pie
Not only did we get a great blender, but VitaMix included a cookbook with numerous recipes to try out in our new blender. The 64-oz. container is large enough to make many servings and is durable, dishwasher safe, and easy to clean. Moreover, the base is mess free – no leaky mess around the blade.
Imagine all of the nutrients that can be acquired with this handy little tool! The blender chops the foods quickly into small, readily absorbable bits with no heat or cooking. The raw nutrients created by nature are made available for nutrition in seconds.
We feel healthy, vibrant, and alive and love the nutrition we get from our VitaMix 5200 blender. We know that we made a great choice in purchasing our VitaMix!

My wife and I recently purchased the
Canopy 4″ Memory Foam Mattress Topper to place on top of our existing Queen-sized mattress. When I initially pulled it out of the box, I placed it on the family room floor so that it could expand from being in the packaging. My little two-year old son immediately loved laying on it! I laid on it as well – wow, it was so comfortable! We ended up watching a movie as a family as we all laid on our new mattress topper on the floor.
The Canopy Memory Foam Mattress Topper conforms to body shape and movements. It has two layers – a 2.5″ base foam with 1.5″ of visco-elastic memory foam. Between the two layers, there are multiple channels that allow for continuous air circulation that ensures comfort all night long. In addition, the package comes with a hypoallergenic, zippered, 100% cotton cover for longevity and protection of the foam mattress. My only complaint is that Canopy could have done a bit better by increasing the width by about 2″. The mattress topper is just slightly smaller than our queen-sized mattress, but that is not a huge deal. The mattress toppers come in all sizes from Twin to King, and come in various thicknesses – from 1.5″ to 8″!!!
I could not believe the added comfort the Canopy Memory Foam Mattress Topper provided to our mattress for such a minimal price! I would highly recommend it to anyone for any size mattress. My wife and I sleep deeper and better and do not like sleeping on any other types of mattresses now. Plus, you don’t have to get a new mortgage on your house just to buy a mattress!

Digestive Health
The digestive system is the “root” system of the body. Just like a tree or a plant pulls its nutrients from the soil through the roots, our body pulls its needed nutrients from consumed foods in the digestive tract. Healthy roots equals a healthy plant; a healthy digestive tract equals a healthy human.
The digestive tract is a source of many disorders in our modern society – irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), hiatal hernia, indigestion, heartburn / acid reflux, constipation, diarrhea, malabsorption, gallbladder dysfunction, ulcers, allergies, and more! Digestive disturbances are a major contributor to back pain, the leading complaint to all physicians nationwide! Moreover, if the digestive tract malfunctions, additional diseases or discomforts may arise and the individual can become toxic. A toxic environment can result in fatigue, irritability, and the accumulation of body fat or edema.
Most over-the-counter medications (other than anti-inflammatories and pain killers) are for digestion problems. Many digestive issues arise from other factors that can be easily addressed with neuromuscular therapies, nutritional support, detoxification, homeopathy, and aculaser. Imagine a world without the “purple pill” or Prilosec…
Get to the “root” of the problem by addressing the digestive tract. Visit us for a complimentary consultation, an appointment, or visit our online store for useful products to assist and heal digestive disorders.

Every day that I continue to observe the world around me, I question when principles of health became so foreign to all individuals. The other day, I was driving by a hospital that had a magnificent message board – HDTV actually. It was flashing pictures of people (for the emotional effect) stating that “Stroke does not discriminate. It affects people of all ages, races, and sex.” The sign was a ploy to market their hospital for stroke care and maybe stroke prevention. Yet, I did not get that message out of the marketing tactic; rather, I questioned how we could all be so naive.
Yes, strokes are one of the major causes of death these days, but when something does not discriminate age, race, or sex, shouldn’t we instantly look for the source cause? The body does not just automatically self-destruct. Strokes are a compendium of many years of bad conditions and many years with signs and indications of poor health. The body is continuously regulating that body and sending biofeedback to us on what is happening – these are known as symptoms. We need to be taught how to “listen” to our bodies. They are miraculous creations and need proper care, nourishment, and a keen sense of something gone awry.
So, what should our society really be teaching us about strokes? It should be nutrition! Yeah, you are probably thinking, “Well, they do. I have been told by the USDA to eat ‘five a day’.” But the next question is… do you eat ‘five a day’? Probably not! Most Americans do not even think about the nutritional content of their food… even trained nutritionists!!! Most foods consumed are cooked, processed, altered, adulterated, and relatively non-nutritious for us. No wonder why there are so many health conditions. We are not creating an environment of health in the first place. Garbage attracts maggots and stagnant water attracts misquitos. A crappy internal environment and unhealthy organs attract more garbage – more disease.
A health revolution needs to take place. More of us need to stand up and choose to no longer consume products with artificial ingredients, preservatives, artificial colors, trans fats, and high fructose corn syrup. More of us need to start eating raw foods – foods that are living. After all, only life can create life; living foods are the only foods capable of creating more life.
My family has made the change. It takes time. It did not occur overnight. Rather, day by day, we modified our choices of foods and discovered that soon, the other foods (that were not good for us anyway) had absolutely no appeal. Now, we eat raw, whole foods and can feel the difference in our daily lives – more function, more energy, and more life! Are you ready embrace better health and ready to join the revolution by making the change to better nutrition?
